ATTRACTING BUSINESS AND CREATING JOBS
Councilmember Guidry is spearheading efforts to boost the economy of District “A” by bringing in new businesses and creating jobs. District “A” has seen, and will continue to see, tremendous economic growth and job creation through projects such as the recently completed Mid-City Market and opening of Costco, which comprise the Carrolton Commercial Corridor.
Mid-City Market, a 108,000-square-foot complex, is now home to 14 new businesses that have already hired over 500 employees. This project transformed once blighted properties into a bustling retail center for the community.
Costco is providing an additional 150 to 170 permanent local jobs as well as an estimated $21 million direct fiscal impact to New Orleans over the next 10 years. With this store, Orleans Parish residents will be much more likely to do their shopping in New Orleans, which keeps tax dollars at home, than having to travel outside the city to Metairie or Kenner. The new Costco is anticipated to be one of the biggest commercial draws of tax revenue into New Orleans in recent history, as they project annual sales of $80-$150 million.
As a champion for her district’s economic growth, Guidry participated in the White House forum of New Orleans Business leaders on April 10, 2012 in Washington, D.C.
